RIVERSIDE RESORT ANNOUNCES AMPHITHEATER 2012 SPRING CONCERT SERIES
LAUGHLIN, NEV. – Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino has announced their 2012 Spring Concert Series in the Riverside Amphitheater. Randy Travis will open the spring series on Saturday, April 7, 2012; The Doobie Brothers will follow on Saturday, April 21, 2012; and comedian George Lopez will close the outdoor spring series on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
Randy Travis is an accomplished American country music artist, gospel singer as well as a featured cinema and television actor. Travis has sold more than 25 million records; has earned 22 number one hits including, “On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “I Told You So,” “Digging Up Bones,” “Deeper Than the Holler,” and many more; plus six number one albums, six Grammy Awards, six Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, nine Association of Country Music (ACM) Awards, ten American Music Awards (AMA), seven Gospel Music Association (Dove) Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Randy Travis is considered a pivotal figure and legend in the history of country music.
The Doobie Brothers are an American Rock Band that have sold over 40 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Vocal Group Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. In September 2010, they released their new album, World Gone Crazy. In a sense, World Gone Crazy is an analogy for the Doobie Brothers as a whole. With founding members Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons, and 30 year-plus veterans John McFee and Michael Hossack, the Doobies have perfectly honored the band’s legacy with an offering that grows in unexpected new directions.
“This album has been in the mix for five years, but we didn’t seriously start putting the nuts and bolts together until three years ago,” Johnston says. Simmons adds, “We had been compiling songs with the idea we would eventually do a record.” Aside from a few years of inactivity in the mid-eighties, the Doobie Brothers have continued to perform, create and record for over 21 consecutive years. “The Doobies have always been about playing live,” Johnston says.
“We’re not a studio hot house group and we’re not a concept album band. We’ve always just brought in the tunes we had, put them together and made an album. That’s the way it’s been from the very first album and that’s still the way it’s being done.”
George Lopez is a multi-talented entertainer whose career encompasses television, film, standup comedy and late-night television. For two seasons, Lopez hosted Lopez Tonight, a late-night television talk show on TBS, which represented Lopez’s return to series television after co-creating, writing, producing and starring in Warner Bros. Television’s groundbreaking hit sitcom George Lopez, which ran for six seasons on ABC. Lopez recently received an ALMA statue for 2011 Favorite TV Reality, Variety and Comedy Personality as well as recently voiced the character “Rafael” in the animated blockbuster movie, Rio, and “Grouchy Smurf” in The Smurfs. His other most recent film credits include the box-office hit Valentine’s Day, directed by Garry Marshall; Beverly Hills Chihuahua; Swing Vote; Henry Poole Is Here; and Balls of Fury.
